Sparkle like a Mermaid and Save Money (Budget Makeup Haul and Review)
Now that it’s spring, and quickly approaching the heat of summer, I’m ready to stick to the sheer and makeup shimmery looks. Check out these shimmery, glittery and iridescent beauties from BH Cosmetics!
These two products featured here are perfect for summer, especially because BH Cosmetics always has amazing (AND affordable!) makeup that sticks around, even in the humidity.
This brand is also top notch because they’re cruelty-free!
They’re always having sales (I got the palette below for $15!), so be sure to subscribe to their mailing list so you can be notified.
I’m giving my 100% honest opinion on the makeup I purchased, as well as my best advice on the best ways to use them. Read on!

BH Cosmetics Eyelights
Creamy, shimmery and bright! Love ’em. Just go easy on it because it comes out very thick and full of fine, shimmery glitter. If you just want a sheer wash of glitter across your eyelid (or anywhere else), start out with a tiny dab.
You’ll also want to wear eye shadow primer underneath the ones that have a darker color (like Chill Pill here), because they have a tendency to leave a faint stain, even after washing off.
Oh yeah, and they are waterproof! You can go swimming and it won’t budge. Your dreams of becoming a shimmering mermaid can come true.

BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Ultimate Artistry Palette
True Story: When I got this palette in the mail, 2 of the eye shadows were broken (the two missing in the picture above). I wrote their customer service, and they gave me store credit for the full price of the palette. I’m ok with it, since the colors I REALLY wanted are still there, and I still have plenty of gorgeous colors to work with. Shit happens, but they rectified the situation nicely. I also had the option to get my money back, but I planned on buying more stuff anyway, because it’s so high quality.
The website describes the mattes as “creamy” or “buttery”,,, that’s not exactly how I would describe them. BUT they are very pigmented and apply nicely. No weird chunkiness in any of them.
I’ve been playing with the swatches on my arm, and you can build up new multidimensional colors by layering them, especially the shimmers or metallics over the mattes, or the metallics over the shimmers!
I have their Studio Pro Waterproof Eye Primer, ($9.50) which makes them show up so much brighter and true to their color.
Oh, and that metallic white in the upper left corner of the palette? It’s the perfect highlighter!

Another fave of mine is also cruelty-free, vegan and affordable: e.l.f.
I can’t say that all of their products are super high quality, but they definitely are top notch in terms of makeup you can find at the dollar store.
Here are my current favorites from e.l.f.!
e.l.f BB Cream SPF 20 – I apply this to my forehead and blend down my nose to protect my skin and even out my tone (I use SPF moisturizer before hand, as well) I like to go outside, I just don’t want to tan!
e.l.f. Lavender Brightening Face Primer – It’s a pretty color, but it does’t look purple on your face. It uses the undertone to even out your skin tone. It also makes your skin look and feel super smooth to make the best canvas for the concealer I use under my eyes.
e.l.f. Pop of Glitter Gel – Good for applying a swash of glitter on your cheekbones, across your eyelids or your lips. It goes on with the perfect amount of glitter, but you can also layer to add more. It dries and stays put! It comes in different colors. I got “Turquoise Twlight”.
e.l.f. Stardust Glitter Eyeliner – Applies a thin line of iridescent glitter, I like to go over my black liner with this. It lays down fine glitter, not the chunky kind, and gives another dimension of color to your eyes. It comes in different colors. I got “Sea Foam”.
e,l,f, Instant Brow Lift Pencil – Best budget eye brow pencil I’ve ever used. It’s only $2.00!! It stays in place all day, but comes off with soap and water. It applies very smooth and doesn’t feel greasy. The spoolie on the other end is also very convenient. I don’t have the tool that sharpens the end of the pencil (it’s retractable), so it’s just barely precise enough, but the effect is still natural-looking. I go for a full-but-natural look, and use a pointy-ended Q-Tip to clean up the edges of my eyebrows to make them look more crisp and natural.
